Wind Energy Links

Use the links on this page to access resources on wind energy and wind energy development.

The web sites listed below provide valuable information about wind energy and wind energy development.

American Wind Energy Association

The American Wind Energy Association (AWEA) promotes wind energy as a clean source of electricity for consumers around the world. AWEA is a national trade association that represents wind power plant developers, wind turbine manufacturers, utilities, consultants, insurers, financiers, researchers, and others involved in the wind industry.

Bonneville Power Administration

The Bonneville Power Administration (BPA) sells wholesale power mainly to public utilities in the Northwest, which in turn retail it to farms, businesses and homes. BPA’s Wind Integration page provides information about the wind power component of the agency’s program.

Bureau of Land Management Wind Energy Page

Since completing the programmatic environmental impact statement on wind energy on public lands in 2005, the BLM has amended 52 regional Resource Management Plans (RMPs), and has crafted policy guidance on best management practices (BMPs). This wepage provides information on wind energy projects on public lands that the BLM has approved, as well as information on the West-wide Wind Mapping Project, an online mapping tool that allows users to overlay wind energy potential on BLM-administered lands with other natural, social, and cultural resource data.

California Energy Commission (CEC) – Reducing Bird and Bat Impacts from Wind Energy

The CEC and the California Department of Fish and Wildlife have provided an informational website on means to help impacts to birds and bats from the development or repowering of wind energy projects.

Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy

The Database of State Incentives for Renewable Energy (DSIRE) is a comprehensive source of information on state, local, utility, and selected federal policies and incentives that promote renewable energy.

DOE Wind and Water Power Technologies Office

Through its Wind Program, the U.S. Department of Energy’s (DOE’s) Office of Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy leads national efforts to improve the performance, lower costs, and accelerate deployment of wind energy technologies both on land and offshore. WINDExchange is the DOE Wind Program’s platform for disseminating credible information about wind energy.

Fish and Wildlife Service Wind Energy Page

The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service (FWS) Wind Energy Page presents information about FWS wind energy policies and activities.

National Wind Coordinating Committee

The National Wind Coordinating Collaborative (NWCC) provides a forum for a diverse set of stakeholders to support development of environmentally, economically, and politically sustainable commercial wind markets in the U.S. The NWCC focuses solely on interactions between wind energy and wildlife.

National Renewable Energy Laboratory

Photos of wind energy technology and facilities are available at the NREL Image Gallery, a collection of photographs related to renewable energy and energy efficiency technologies.

NREL's Land-Based Wind Research webpage provides detailed information on many aspects of wind energy technology, including energy and economic analysis, resource characterization, forecasting, and maps; technology development; and siting considerations and environmental impacts.

National Wind Technology Center

The National Wind Technology Center (NWTC) is a research facility managed by the National Renewable Energy Laboratory for the U.S. Department of Energy. NWTC researchers work with members of the wind energy industry to advance wind power technologies that lower the cost of wind energy through research and development of state-of-the-art wind turbine designs.

Sandia National Laboratory Wind Energy Technology

Sandia National Laboratory conducts research in Wind Energy to increase the viability of wind technology.

WindPower Monthly

Windpower Monthly is a wind energy news magazine that includes articles on political, industrial, environmental, and technical developments in the global wind energy arena.
